You Are Strong Enough
Smokefree Sheffield is telling smokers ready to quit that “You are strong enough”.
In January, Smokefree Sheffield offered support to smokers who were thinking of quitting with the message, “You are strong enough”. It has been shown that with the free local support that is available, smokers are three times more likely to succeed than if they tried quitting unsupported.
When you stop smoking, it not only leads to better physical and mental health, you get more money in your pockets.
Research has also revealed that smoking not only leads to health inequalities, but is also more concentrated among the most disadvantaged groups of the population. This means that the money saved from stopping smoking has the potential to make a huge difference to the lives of many people in the city.
For some smokers, it’s estimated that they could save up to £5,000 each year. This could be used on food, clothing, housing, education, energy, and medical care.
Around 60% of smokers want to quit, but many aren’t aware of the support that is available to them, so about half of them try to do it by willpower alone. Although some do succeed this way, many more succeed with the support of a stop smoking service, which offers free help and advice, all from a local expert who knows what they’re going through.
You may have seen some of the adverts on posters around the city, in the Sheffield Star or on social media. You may even have heard our advert on the radio. We want to encourage quitters to reach out to us or another local stop smoking service for the free help and support they’re entitled to receive to help them stop smoking.
Smokers in Sheffield can get free advice and support to quit via Yorkshire Smokefree Sheffield. You are strong enough to quit smoking.
